The shirt design is heavily influenced by the flag of Artigas, a tribute to the national hero of Uruguay, Jose Gervasio Artigas (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d1/Flag_of_Artigas.svg).
I have added 3 stars to the outside of the badge to represent Nacional's 3 Copa Libertadores trophies, one each in red, blue and white.
The sponsor was broken into individual letters and rotated to keep the sash and stripes as clean as possible, as I preferred to do something different to simply making the sponsor small and put it under the badge (e.g. Rangers/Celtic, Inter centenary, Man City away etc).
The back of the shirt features the Sun of May, the national emblem of Uruguay, as seen on the national flag. Nacional are particularly proud of their history and stature (as their name suggests) so I decided this is could be a relevant addition, especially as the horizontal blue/white stripes create the illusion of the Uruguay flag.
Finally, the shorts and socks are clean and simple so attention is drawn to the shirt. I decided to include a large standard sponsor on the back of the shorts to compensate for the non-standard display on the shirt. The positioning of the Nike swooshes adds a simple twist.
