Description: There's been a lot of debate over recent years as to whether Manchester City and United should remove the ships from their crests. Some say the ship is a link to the shipment of slaves to the UK and America, while some people argue much more than just slaves were shipped on the Manchester ship canal and that the ships are just representing Manchester's industrial past. I can see both sides of the argument, but I wanted to try making both crests with no ships present, to see if the ships could be removed while still keeping the spirit of the clubs. In this badge the symbol of the ship has been replaced with a blue moon, from the song of the sam name that plays before every Manchester City match.

The Manchester Ship Canal first became operational in 1894, almost three decades after the USA abolished slavery. Therefore, anyone who thinks it was used for shipping slaves is just uninformed.

  @Oakleighman Actually I was wrong in my description. Apparently the ship was adopted on the city crest while slavery was still happening, and Manchester was getting rich off the back of cotton, picked in America by slaves. It's not actually related to the ship canal.
  
  Like I say, I can see both sides. I tend to come down on the side that the ship is just rpresentative of the ship canal and Manchester's industrial history, but I thought it'd be fun to try and design the badges without the ship anyway.
