The inspiration for the redesign of the emblem was the Helstone Monunment in Paramaribo. Johannes Helstone was a Surinamese composer whose most famous work was [i]Het Pand der Goden[/i] (the house of the gods). The monument is in an Art Deco style, hence the crest redesign.

The red, green and white symbol is inspired by part of the monument (namely the musical note), and the football incorporates the flag of Suriname.
