This has the Alchemical symbol for Sulphur, the team are known as the Sulphurites, after the mineral rich waters in Harrowgate which is renowned as a spa town. The date of 1914 is when the club was established and were due to play their first game against Bishop Auckland, but the war broke out and the date on the current badge is when the team joined the West Riding league.
As the team is from Yorkshire, the white rose is on the crest.
