The majority of major cities the world have professional football teams carrying their name. There's Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester United and City, Liverpool and Hull in England. Barcelona, Real and Atletico Madrid, Inter and AC Milan, PSG, Bayern Munich and Lyon in Europe. Sao Paulo, Raja Casablanca, Sanfrecce Hiroshima and L.A Galaxy in the rest of the world. Many of these cities have other teams with different names, Aston Villa and Espanyol for example.
London, however, does not; despite being one of the most prominent and famous in the world. Now the main reason for this, is that the majority of the teams in the city, take on the names of their boroughs or towns. Chelsea, Fulham, Milwall, Barnet and Brentford are examples of this. I think it's a great shame that there is no team bearing the name of this great city, so I've decided to run this competition to see what you lot can do!
Design a kit and/or crest for a new team under the name of London... (Town, FC, United... whatever!).
Rules/Guidelines:
1. Try and give them an identity. A kit with blue shirts and shorts and white socks is going to be very 'Chelsea'. A claret and blue crest with a castle and hammers will obviously draw similarities with West Ham. Obviously that's quite blatant, but try and make it stand out.
2. Any brand manufacturer is fine.
3. Think about sponsors. Fly Emirates, Samsung and FXPro all have big contracts, so are unlikely to want another one in London.
4. Think about where the club will be based, (Imagine there's space for a stadium) but remember its a club for the whole city. The Fulham area is pretty rammed, with Chelsea, Fulham and QPR all in the Premiership this season.
Thats about it! I'll be judging kits as a whole, not homes and aways separately. I'll also be judging crests and even nicknames. I will announce winners some time round OCTOBER 1st, so I guess thats your deadline.
Get creating!
