Kit Design Tutorial for BeginnersHere

For some, the focus of the 260th Kit of the Week (KOTW) stage may seem particularly vague.

Of course, we have had challenges that have offered increased choice to members - the freedom to select any team from a particular league or tournament, for example - but in this case, “A German Team” was one very specific German team: Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Born of the virality of pub manager Brian Pickering’s faux-struggle to spell the Bundesliga side’s name on an A-board way back in 2016, the joke lives on beyond the novelty scarves the club themselves produced and made it into one of our premier challenges.

But it’s serious stuff, right? And Borussia are certainly a serious [it] team with an outstanding kit history that commands respect.

Fortunately, the official name for the stage was where the tomfoolery ended. The entries - 24 in total - were of a very high standard and plenty would look fantastic hanging off Die Fohlen.

We can’t list them all, as much as it could be argued they all warrant mention, but KWEBA revisited an all-time classic without giving off old-fashionedness, santiagoalies and ONI went modern, and both cukun and Corinth classily applied up-to-date stylings to make two dark-hued Puma-branded shirts that look very 2022-23 but would also surely stand the test of time.

It was indeed Corinth who secured victory via the voting. And A German Team would be blessed to have the winning design to call upon.
