Named after the murdered South African civil rights activist, Bakau-based Steve Biko Football Club (FC) might not be famous for their footballing exploits beyond the Gambia, but they’re iconic through association and have a striking identity.
So, of course, a Crest Redesign Competition Weekly (CRCW) stage was fun, and while one entry, from Tombot, had a depiction of Biko, the rest focused on the Bakau Giants Killers’ crocodile emblem, with the bronze-bagging submission from Rabbi, for one, a lot of that aforementioned fun.
To complete the podium, silver and gold were taken, respectively, by the Cristiano Ronaldo and Ronaldo of DF, illuminaqi and Narci. The former with a modern-styled shield-based affair that hints at an impending bite of the frame, and the latter securing the win with a neat circular creation.
A hugely pleasing stage, and an important reminder of the struggle for emancipation in Mother Africa.
