I recently wrote a piece for this site concerning the changing of kits in the event of a clash in cup finals.  The point being that a small modification to one or both first choice kits could avoid a team having to wear unfamiliar colours for an important occasion.

This competition is intended to put that principle into practice.  Take any significant historical final match - featuring no "away" team - where at least one team had to change, take each team's first choice kits for that season and edit them so there would no longer be a "clash".

As some extra reading, a search of the True Colours site featuring use of the phrase "overall clash" (here) should be of some help.

Illustrate your upload showing both teams' kits on the cup final day, even if only one needed to be modified.  Perhaps a cup final programme page layout would work well.

A winner will be picked based on difficulty of choice and ingenuity.  If several entries demonstrate standout creativity then there may be more than one winner or several honourable mentions.

The competition will close on Saturday 14th September 2013 at 23:59 and I will choose a winner/winners shortly afterwards.  The competition is just for fun.

UPDATE - 19/9/13: The competition is now CLOSED.

I was thrilled to see how many people got involved and the standard of the entries was staggering.  Accordingly, I'm going to choose two winners - a winning entry for best solution and another for best kit.

There were several contenders for best solution: buttplug took my Liverpool-Sunderland example and did something completely different with the Rokerites kit, which worked brilliantly, I know that CiaranW90's Hibs-Celtic idea was popular and in keeping with the traditional wearing of first choice colours, Lacasaca's Athletic-Atletico kits were just about ok - but Bilbao's Away from that season is not, imho, one to try to avoid - his Barça-United might have scraped past the ref as well, and I would have an easier job selling this shirt if Rey's claim that Aston Villa and Bayern Munich could have both worn home colours in the 1982 European Cup final had also been the view of the referee.

But it's another European Cup final I've decided to go with, the 2006 game in Paris.  I actually thought of that match when writing the article and, in almost identical fashion to last night's Barça-Ajax tie, it's clear that Arsenal reverting to their more recognisable colours for the biggest game in their history, and a switch to familiar shorts and socks for Barça, with just slight amendment to the shirt, would have been suitable.  It's using artistic licence, as in 2005-06 the Arsenal Home shirt was redcurrant, but I think it's a special case and what a great entry.  Corinth's Arsenal kit would also have made a great collectors' item, even if the Gunners had still gone on to lose.

For the best kit, see above again.  buttplug's Liverpool '92 final version would have been great, as would the Sunderland one, the Arsenal '06 one captures the imagination, even as a simple template-guided effort, but I'm going with Rey's Italy modification from the Euro 2000 final.  It would be another nine years before the Azzuri played with the idea of revisiting their brown shorts and socks and it may well have worked too - the kit is a great idea regardless.  Perhaps in their retro light blue shirts they could have held onto their 1-0 lead until the end.  We'll never know.

Two final honourable mentions:  Firstly for Lacasaca's depiction of Zidane and Materazzi in modified kits.  Not sure it works, and the France kit is perhaps a little dark to be regarded as their "first choice" colours, but, well, look at it.  Great stuff.

Secondly, kudos to MartinLeRoy for sacrificing a real life kit that he actually designed.  That's above and beyond the call of duty.

Well done to everyone!  I really enjoyed looking through them all.
