- The women’s 2019 world cup sees the vast majority of the field sporting kits made different to their male counterparts. Pretty much every kit in the tournament is special, and I could have picked any – France’s chic home kit, Germany’s tricoloured top which is an improvement on the fine men’s shirt and England’s red crush gem of an away kit which shows the way forward for modern kit design. However, my pick goes to Australia otherwise known as Westfield Matilda’s home shirt. Ok confession time – I struggled badly trying to reproduce this kit and scrapped it many times. It’s a bit of a mess and by far the least accurate reproduction on the list. The real kit is a stunner. Like most of the best kits, it divides opinion. Idiots who say ‘I could do that’ see vomit, those of us of an informed opinion see a very special kit. The shirt (and socks, which should have remained plain) is based on Urban Melbourne street art. It’s best boast however is that it takes a cue from the unpleasant Socceroos 1993 shirt and turns it in to a thing of beauty.
