I don't fancy either kit personally but I respect both of them as good kits . Hats off for doing a Mizuno shirt, it looks really Mizuno-y. I'm voting for Fenton because it appears there's more originality in the concept.
Irving's made great work again, amazing drawing but the kit lacks that something... Plus I'm not a fan of the all-red,would prefer white or green shorts. The red is also a bit too dark, closer to maroon than a bright red,I'm not the biggest fan of maroon as a colour. Fenton's did a high-quality illustration, colours are spot on,but it looks a bit too busy for me,maybe he could have kept the red hoop that strikes through the crest. It's very "Japanese" though, and nice touch using Mizuno. Again I'm not a fan of all-blue,but it works better than all-red.
My vote's got to go for Fenton, kit looks much more representative of the country and colour combo works much better.
My vote goes to Fenton. I have said it before that I do not like hand drawn design in completions like this, it is so hard to compere them to other designs, but I of course do admit that IrvingPerceni drawing is weary good, but looking past that I like noahmartin her think I have seen this collar design somewhere before, but ok this is a good design idea and I think I can make out what he is aiming at here, and that could have worked out fine if it was not for fact that his kit came up against tough opponent here, FentonĀ“s kit is weary good in my opinion and I think he deserves to get my vote here.
My vote is for Irvingperceni. I think that Fenton's Japan kit details look awesome individually (the sunrays look nice, as well as the red stripes and the white lines), but too much went on when he mixed all those elements in a single kit. Portugal kit, albeit simple, looks nice.
Pretty tough impending loss to swallow at such an early stage of the competition, especially when I thought I'd witness a closer voting margin. I expected a tough draw until the latter stages of this; I was a bit confused on how this round would be drawn. I thought we would be paired up with winner of the slot above or next to that of ours. Gotta say that that confusion and over-confidence on who I thought my next opponent was affected the design process a bit. That will not happen again. Nevertheless, I will take the positive feedback happily and congratulate Fenton for his design and imminent victory.
As a way to clarify my design concept, I did write an extensive description of my design concept in the entry I posted I believe many have not read. I will continue to stick to my gut and create concept designs in an organic way. Thanks again for the competition, I always enjoy participating in these. Tough to see several great designers go so early in this round. I hate to see many people commit to the competition and flake out in the end. We should take that a create a more feasibly structure competition of this magnitude in the future. Congrats, Fenton, great competition effort, I can see it is hard work, and I look forward to future tournaments. I will continue posting my World Cup Project designs, I hope you all enjoy those! All feedback is welcome! Good luck to all remaining designers!
@irvingperceni It's not over yet! Still over 24 hours of voting left so hold tight!
I appreciate your feedback regarding the comp format as well. I was tossing up different ways to organise it incuding seeding to keep the more "prolific" designers apart, but then that would have been a bit unfair determining who gets seeded and who doesn't. I figured doing it this way was the fairest and by drawing the rounds after each deadline the idea was to not let match-ups affect the designs submitted. I used the FA Cup as model to give every entrant equal opportunity.
As always in a knockout comp it sucks to lose a match-up because that means tournament over. That's why I'm really keen to implement a league style comp once this is done so I will be looking for everyones suggestions and help to get that up and running!
irvingperceni I do understand your frustration not to get better results and feeling you being misunderstood in your design, I my self have often felt the same, but what I have learned in competition here on DF and elsewhere, the fact that it can be a big difference in what folks consider a good design, and what one may think is grate work and what the next guy might think is a total rubbish, but that is just how design is and it applies to all categories of design. It took me a while to except that fact and try not to take it to personally, and I still do get upset if my designs are passed of as no good, but that is normal and nothing wrong with that, but just do not let that influence you to not continue to strive for a better designs and to keep loyal to what you think is good, because none of us others here are better qualified then you to say what is good and what is not, we can just speak for our self and what we think, and that dose not mean that we are necessarily right. Thanks for participating and keep up your good work, I will be looking forward to see it here on DF.
@Rabbi Nicely put Rabbi. I'm sure many of us feel like that. Everyone has their own tastes. Lots of kits that get made by Nike or Adidas and are used in real life are probably just as good as some of the designs we make, its just that they have the deals with teams to do that and they are big companies.
@RedStarLiverpool I'd like to be part of it, if you guys don't mind, because I started using Gimp, a week ago, got it worked up, and I just created a France design that I will upload later this week. Can you please check it out guys, its my first ever. I'll notify you guys when I upload it.
@Adam Said Awesome, dude! Congrats in starting to upload designs. It definitely took me a while to do that, too. We look forward in seeing your designs, Welcome!
I'll gladly set up the league if we come to an agreement on format etc. also, performance in the league could lead to seeding in tournaments that occur after conclusion of a league season. Just like the actual football leagues w/ the World Cup in the summer.
@moom Think a league is a good idea but there could be some issues with voting, no matter how subjective you would like to be in an even contest you'd vote for the designer that is not going to overtake you. I have thought about a way round this and wondered if there could be two or more leagues, initially equal standing, you can only vote in match ups from the other league to yours. After a couple of 'seasons', with the teams mixed up, it could easily be worked out to make a premier league and lower divisions with relegation and promotions thereafter.
@irvingperceni Thanks a lot man, it's my first, I always use to draw them (in 2d), not as great as you off course (Yours are out of this world), but after I saw people create them on softwares, I wanted to learn, because I knew no one would enjoy a black and white drawing of them. So my Uncle should me Gimp and I started to learn it myself. I can't create the fullest of designs or the most thoughtful and detailed ones, but I'm getting there. (I've noticed it's a lot of hard work)
Oh and by the way keep up your great pieces of art.
@irvingperceni I just uploaded the design, please can you go check it out. And read the description (I know it's long), it would be greatly appreciated.
@irvingperceni incredible how this guy after 7 years is still blabbering, he did that to me few days back, about storyboard explanation as that is what matters really, if your design has to be explained with a lot of words then its not working or the details you have included do not stand out or do not make an impact, its the design which has to speak, i still have to see big brands publish together with their new shirts announcement a detailed storyboard so that the public understands, ahhhh thats why those holes next to the smaller holes around the bigger holes in the armpit.... it also escapes me how he was hired at romai in those days of 2014 as i understand, when there was at least joe gillibrand in this board, now an emerging designer at new balance he came to my behance DID NOT read the concept explanation, and started bothering me calling himself "the expert here" in his internet life he produced a total of 30/32 shirts AS A WHOLE, between amateur designs and professional ones professional shirts are 3, i mean three yes 1, 2, 3 and last one is from 2016, a 2 years long experience in football design...spoiled child now he designs for a big brand but another sport, but he complains that they dont hire him in the football division because he is not european, poor daisy.... no its because you cannot design football and basket design is to football design what counting with your fingers is to advanced algebra calculus
