Situated 51 km west of Central Sydney, the city of Penrith is an outer western suburb, based at the foot of the famous Blue Mountains. The Penrith District Rugby League, which includes the neighbouring suburb of Blacktown, is home to 24 amateur rugby league teams.
Penrith were admitted to the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition in 1967. along with Cronulla Sutherland. The Panters have won two premierships, in 1991 and 2003. Until 1990, their colours were brown and white, and they were often referred to as the Chocolate Soldiers.
